Suspect Arrested in Hit-and-run That Killed Man Waiting at Northwest Dallas Bus Stop

Nearly two weeks after a man waiting at a northwest Dallas bus stop was killed in a hit-and-run, transit police have arrested a suspect.Jose Rolando Lopez Martinez, 27, was located after he reported his truck stolen to Addison police, DART spokesman Morgan Lyons said. Addison police contacted Dallas Area Rapid Transit police, who verified that the truck was the one that had swerved out of its lane Jan. 12 and hit a couple waiting at the bus stop in the 11300 block of Dennis Road. Michael Parritt, 65, died of his injuries at Parkland Memorial Hospital.DART police arrested Martinez on Thursday. He confessed to accidentally hitting the couple and said he was trying to avoid being struck by another vehicle that went into his lane, Lyons said. Parritt's wife of 23 years, Stacy King, told KDFW-TV (Channel 4) that she thought the driver had swerved to avoid another car and wasn't sure why he hadn't stopped to help after the accident."You took my life partner, you took my only source of income," King told KDFW of the driver. "I mean, it was an accident. All you had to do was stop."King was also injured in the crash, but released from the hospital later in the evening.Martinez was booked into the Dallas County Jail.
