Supersized Sporting Goods Store Scheels to Join Nebraska Furniture Mart in The Colony

Construction on another huge store is breaking ground Thursday in The Colony.Fargo, N.D.-based Scheels is building a 325,000-square-foot store that it describes as both a sporting goods store and an entertainment destination. At that size it's about 13 times the size of a traditional sporting goods big box store such as Academy Sports & Outdoors or Dick's Sporting Goods. The store will be in The Colony's $1.5 billion Grandscape development along State Highway 121. Scheels first announced in 2016 that it planned to come here. At the time the retailer said it would open in 2020, but hasn't responded for comment after sending out a ground breaking notice.   Continue reading...
