Stewpot Executive Director to Retire After 30 Years Caring for Dallas' Homeless

On one of his first days at The Stewpot, the Rev. Bruce Buchanan watched a police officer throw a homeless person against a wall and hold a pistol to the man's forehead."And I thought, 'Where the hell am I?,'" said Buchanan, executive director of The Stewpot. But the rough start didn't scare him off. After three decades leading the downtown homeless outreach under First Presbyterian Church of Dallas, Buchanan is retiring at the end of the year.
