State Leaders Prepare for Harvey's Catastrophic Arrival

This is a developing story and will be updated.AUSTIN -- As Hurricane Harvey threatened a torrential deluge of historic proportions, Texas state officials urged coastal residents to seek shelter and prepared for epic damages that may require years to repair."We will be dealing with immense, record-setting flooding," Gov. Greg Abbott said during a press conference at the Texas Department of Public Safety State Operations Center. "You don't want to put yourself into a situation where you could be subject to a search and rescue."Abbott met with state emergency management personnel as weather forecasters predicted catastrophic losses of life and property from storm, which they said could make landfall twice along the Texas Gulf Coast. Forecasters predicted Friday that Harvey would first make landfall in Corpus Christi as a Category 3 Hurricane with sustained winds as high as 120 mph before jutting back out into the gulf and returning to land again in Houston with tropical storm force.  Continue reading...
