Rangers Stadium Architects Plan to Unveil Design Update

Now we're getting somewhere. Maybe.Officials with the Texas Rangers and the architect firm, HKS, Inc., plan to release a design update this week for the team's new $1 billion, retractable roof stadium. They have scheduled an 11 a.m. Thursday news conference to make the announcement. Team officials have been mum on what the stadium will actually look like, instead releasing conceptual images not long after HKS was announced as Globe Life Field's architectural firm.The Rangers said that excavation for the new stadium -- which is slated to be ready in time for the 2020 baseball season -- is planned for October.Last week, the Rangers secured some help in funding their share of stadium costs through a $600 million loan from SunTrust Banks, the same company that owns the naming rights to the Atlanta Braves' new stadium.Rob Matwick, the Rangers' executive vice president for business operations, will preside over the news conference, along with HKS Executive Vice President Bryan Trubey, who is the design principal for Globe Life Field.So, with a little luck, fans will have a decent idea of what the stadium will look like by the end of the week, and we can finally put those conceptual renderings aside.  Continue reading...
