Plano-based Tech Company CompuCom Is Leaving Texas

Information technology company CompuCom Systems is moving its headquarters to South Carolina less than a year after it moved into a new building in Plano.CompuCom is building a new global headquarters in Lancaster County, S.C. and will bring about 1,500 new jobs and $41 million of investment to the area over the next five to seven years, according to a company news release. It is working with the South Carolina Department of Commerce on the project, which is the largest single job announcement in the county's history.It is unclear what the move means for Texas employees and whether the Plano office will stay open. The company has been called for comment. CompuCom has been in business since 1987 and has more than 11,500 employees. It provides IT services, tech consulting and products to Fortune 1000 companies. In June, the company said that it was moving its headquarters from its longtime 20-acre on Forest Lane in North Dallas to a new building near Legacy business park in Plano. It rented the over 92,000 square feet Dominion Legacy building on the south side of State Highway 121 at Parkwood Boulevard. The company's new South Carolina headquarters will be a 150,000 square-foot new building furnished with "smart" features and connected devices from kitchen electronics to lighting, the news release said.South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley and South Carolina Secretary of Commerce Bobby Hitt praised the move in the news release, saying it shows the state's strength in attracting tech companies and creating new jobs.  Continue reading...
