Dallas Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki, one of Dallas-Fort Worth's most beloved sports stars, announced his retirement Tuesday night, April 9, 2019.Twenty-one seasons with the same team has made him so much a part of Dallas life that murals, banners, and other tributes have been erected everywhere even well before his retirement announcement. Take, for example, the sprawling mural of him with his massive wingspan painted on the side of an old Deep Ellum building.
