Owner of Dallas Gay Bar Says He's the Change Texans Are Looking for in Governor's Mansion

In deep-red Texas, where the so-called bathroom bill targeting transgender people was the focal point of the legislative season, a Dallas man who owns a gay leather bar believes he can find the support he needs to become governor.Democrat Jeffrey Payne, a newcomer to politics who won the title of Mr. Leather International in 2009, says he offers an alternative to Gov. Greg Abbott that Texans are ready for. "There's no reason to think that someone who is gay can't do a job, and here it's being governor and representing people," he said. "I believe that the majority of Texans are going to sit back and say, 'I don't care that he's gay, what are his solutions?'"He kicked off his campaign over the weekend with a rally in downtown Dallas.  Continue reading...
