North Texas Tea Party Republican Jonathan Stickland Is Not Seeking Re-election

AUSTIN — Rep. Jonathan Stickland is not seeking re-election to a fifth term.The Bedford Republican and tea party firebrand, who passed his first bill this session, made the announcement Monday on social media."Eight years was enough for George Washington, and it certainly is for me. After much prayerful consideration and reflection, I have determined it is not the Lord's will for me to seek reelection," Stickland wrote on Facebook. "Instead, I intend to dedicate more time to my family, my church, and my business."A divisive figure, Stickland spent much of his time in the Texas House attempting to kill other members bills. This year, he passed his first bill into law, a provision that bans red light cameras statewide.
