Man Wielding Machetes Killed by Police at Garland Apartments

A man who was reported slashing tires and stabbing cars with two large knives was shot and killed by Garland police at an apartment complex off I-30 Friday night. Police were called to the Lake Village North Apartment Homes, in the 200 block of I-30, around 10:30 p.m. The caller said a man was damaging cars in the parking lot with two machetes.Two officers — a 13-year veteran and a 3-year veteran, according to Garland police — arrived on scene and found the man with the knives.The man did not drop the knives after the officers loudly told him to do so. Instead, he moved toward the officers, still wielding the machetes, police say. Both officers shot at the man. He was transported to a Dallas hospital where he was pronounced dead.
