Man Who Fled Mexico in Fear of Gangs Is Killed After Being Deported From Austin, Wife Says

A 28-year-old man, who was recently deported, was killed by Mexican gang members he originally fled to Texas to escape from, his wife told the Austin American-Statesman.Former Austin resident Juan Coronilla-Guerrero was kidnapped and shot to death last week, she said. His body was found on the side of a road in San Luis de la Paz where he was living with his wife’s family, the newspaper reported.He was detained six months ago by federal immigration agents while he was at the Travis County courthouse for a routine court appearance on misdemeanor charges of family violence and marijuana possession, the newspaper reported. The move escalated fears that ICE would crackdown on unauthorized immigrants at courthouses, but there have not been ICE arrests at the courthouse since then, the newspaper reported.   Continue reading...
