Man Dies After Shooting Near Arlington Elementary School

A man was killed Friday afternoon in a shooting that prompted a brief lockdown at an Arlington elementary school, police said. Officers found the man about 2 p.m. on the ground in a parking lot in the 2300 block of Cypress Creek Lane, near East Arkansas Lane. The man had a gunshot wound and was transported to an area hospital, where he died. Detectives think that the man, who has not been identified, was engaging in "high-risk activity" shortly before the shooting, according to preliminary information. They did not elaborate. Nearby Adams Elementary School was briefly locked down, but all of the students have since been released, police said. Police are continuing to interview witnesses.
