‘I Can't Take Care of Y'all Anymore,' Dallas Mom Told 5 Kids as She Fled DWI Crash, Police Say

A drunken driving suspect was arrested last week as she walked away from a Pleasant Grove crash with her five children doing their best to keep up with her, police said.Shunicca Bell, 35, was booked last Thursday on charges of driving while intoxicated with a child and four counts of abandoning or endangering a child. She was released on $5,000 bail.A witness called 911 after seeing Bell abandon her silver Volvo about 10:30 p.m. near Lake June and Jim Miller roads. The caller said Bell's kids also piled out of the car and had to run to keep up with their mother. None of them appeared to be hurt."Keep walking," Bell told the kids, according to her arrest-warrant affidavit. "I can't take care of y'all anymore."When officers arrived, they asked Bell what was going on, and she said she had hit a curb and was walking with her six children. Asked to count again, she said there were only five children with her.Police also spoke to Bell's 11-year-old daughter, who told them that she and the other four children, ages 5 to 10, were riding home from a party with their mother when she crashed.Bell told officers that she drank two or three tall boys of Bud Ice two hours before the crash. She failed a field sobriety test and registered a blood-alcohol level of 0.144 on a Breathalyzer, well above the 0.08 legal limit for driving.Police records don't make it clear whom the children were turned over to.  Continue reading...
