Grapevine Officer Returns Home for Thanksgiving After Narrowly Surviving Crash

A flash of blue. Metal on metal. Skin on asphalt. An officer down.The last thing RJ Hudson remembers from Oct. 15 is zipping down State Highway 121 on his patrol motorcycle in pursuit of a speeding driver. His memory has no record of the crash that almost took his life, but his injuries tell the story.When help arrived, the 12-year veteran of the Grapevine Police Department was lying limp and unconscious on the pavement after a driver in a blue SUV swerved into him while trying to avoid debris in the road.The trauma staff at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center was preparing for his arrival when they got word he had regained consciousness in the ambulance. That meant he had a fighting chance.They wheeled him into the trauma ward and quickly assessed his injuries before getting to work.“He looked like a guy who had skipped three hundred feet down the median of a freeway without being attached to a vehicle,” said Dr. Jason Miller, a rehabilitation physician at the hospital.  Continue reading...
