Grand Prairie 12-year-old Increases Smoke-detector Total to 10,000

Hector Montoya started with 100 smoke detectors. Now he's up to more than 10,000. The 12-year-old Grand Prairie resident was honored by the city for donating his 10,000th smoke detector to someone who previously didn't have one. "One life lost is one life too many," Hector told a city television crew. Hector's efforts started in 2014 when he was horrified by the story of a Fort Worth mother and one of her daughters who died in a house fire.   Continue reading...
