Got 30 Years’ Experience and Looking for Work? Some Firms Want to Hear From You

Today’s labor force has more older workers than ever, and as many aging baby boomers keep on working, the numbers seem destined to climb. Yet the vast majority of Americans over 50 believe their age is a disadvantage in finding a job, according to one survey. And well over half cited age discrimination at work, another poll found. Maybe candidates should look in other places and consider other kinds of jobs, because some employers are very interested in them.Andy Cohen, who owns three companies in Irving and Plano, said he loves to hire mature adults. In fact, Cohen said he recently ran an advertisement seeking applicants with a minimum of 30 years’ experience -- a way to signal older workers to apply.“In many cases, the life experience they bring makes them superior employees,” said Cohen, whose companies include Thermal Edge, an industrial supplier of cooling systems, and Edge Fabrication, a metals manufacturer.  Continue reading...
