Flashback: When a Penny Saved Was a Penny Hoarded

Editor's note: Take a look back into the archives of The Dallas Morning News.Ever wonder what to do with the loose pennies at the bottom of your pocket or purse? In 1964, the answer would have been easy: hoard them. In July of 1964, Dallas was more than a few cents short, due in large part to "investors" trying to make it rich by holding on to large bags of pennies. No word on if they struck it rich or not, but if nothing else, coin collectors certainly had a whole lot of wishes to toss in the fountain.  Continue reading...
