Editor's note: Take a look back into the archives of The Dallas Morning News.In 1981, Major League Baseball struck out when team owners couldn't come to an agreement for free agent compensation, which would cancel games from June 12 to Aug. 9. In this July 26 column, Skip Bayless questioned whether anyone actually cared about the baseball strike. Luckily, a compromise were reached on July 31, and play resumed Aug. 9 with the All-Star Game.
