Family Files Wrongful Death Lawsuit After Security Guard Killed Man at Dallas Apartment Complex

The family of a man killed last year by a security guard at a Red Bird apartment complex has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the apartments' owners, the guard and his security company.The lawsuit, filed in Dallas County, came nearly a year after 38-year-old Jorge Olguín was fatally shot in front of his wife and two kids at the Wheatland Terrace apartments as they left a birthday party. The family in the lawsuit alleges that the security guard and the apartment complex displayed “heedless, reckless and wanton disregard for the rights, welfare and safety of Jorge Olguín.”Authorities have released few details about the investigation. Dallas police spokesman Sgt. Warren Mitchell said the department referred the investigation to a grand jury, which will determine whether the guard should be charged with a crime or acted in self-defense.  Continue reading...
