DISD Trustees Opt to Keep Board Seat Empty Until May Elections

A Dallas school board seat vacant since the beginning of February will remain empty until the May elections.Trustees on Monday were expected to meet and appoint someone to join them on the board in the District 4 seat, which stretches from Pleasant Grove to Seagoville to Balch Springs. But school board president Edwin Flores said there was no consensus about moving forward with any of the applicants.Five applicants met the board's requirements to be considered for the seat, including at least three who are running for election for that seat. But the seat will remain empty until a new trustee is elected in May or, in the case of a runoff, in June.Former trustee Jaime Resendez had represented District 4, but resigned effective Feb. 1 after it was learned he had moved into a house just a few blocks outside of the district's boundaries.
