Delta Rescues Stranded Group of Fifth Graders After Canceled American Airlines Flight

When a group of 41 fifth graders and their chaperones on their way to a school trip had their flights canceled at Oklahoma City's Will Rogers World Airport, Delta Air Lines gate agents stepped in to save the day.The students were traveling from Tulsa to Richmond, Virginia, for a school trip to Washington, D.C., that had been in the works for almost a year when they were notified by Fort Worth-based American Airlines that their flight was canceled and there were no alternative flights available, according to ABC-affiliate KOCO News.American offered the group a refund, and chaperones for the students were disappointed they were unable to make other travel arrangements through the airline. That's when two Delta Air Lines gate agents who witnessed the event went to work.The employees contacted Delta's headquarters in Atlanta and managed to fly one of the airline's spare aircraft to Oklahoma City, just to take the more than three dozen students to Richmond."It was absolutely amazing when Delta corporate came in and just said, 'We'll just give you the whole plane,' " one of the chaperones for the group said.Last week, after being stranded for six and a half hours, the students were able to visit the nation's capital.  Continue reading...
