Here is what you need to know to start your day.City Hall may create a new retirement plan instead of saving Pension SystemWhile the effort to save the Dallas Police and Fire Pension System continues, city officials offered a proposal Wednesday that might not save it at all. Chief Financial Officer Elizabeth Reich told Dallas City Council that a new retirement system could be created called the Safety Employees Retirement Fund, offering a transfer to the new program for all active employees.The new plan would include traditional pension benefits in addition to a 401k plan with a 5 percent city match. The new system would offer lower guaranteed benefits, but members transferring would be out of the current system, which could become insolvent in the next 10 years.  Continue reading...
