Dallas ISD's Hinojosa: Texas School Funding Reform Looks Promising

As a Texas superintendent for more than 20 years, I can truly say that this legislative session is the most promising I have witnessed during my tenure in Dallas ISD. I am excited and encouraged to see the entire Texas leadership — the governor, lieutenant governor and the speaker of the Texas House —speaking with one voice in favor of positive action to address our state's most pressing issues: school finance reform, property tax relief and student safety.I am hopeful that this session's work will reprise the strong partnership that created Dallas ISD's highly successful Pathways to Technology Early College High School, or P-TECH, initiative. I especially want to thank Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick for serving as a major champion for the P-TECH high schools, two dozen of which are thriving in Dallas ISD. This program has transformed how we do high school. Thanks in large part to his support for the concept from its inception, Dallas ISD students all across the city are graduating with high school diplomas, associate degrees and the promise of lucrative careers backed by the support of generous industry partners.  Continue reading...
