Change the U.S. Constitution? Texas House Says Yes, Please

AUSTIN -- Texas would add its name to a small but growing list of states calling for a convention to amend the U.S. Constitution and rein in federal power under a package of bills the Texas House approved on Thursday."We believe that the federal government is out of control, and we're standing up for our states' rights," said Rep. Rick Miller, R-Sugar Land.The bills approved Thursday included an amendment to the Texas Constitution that would allow Texas to apply to Congress to call a convention of states to consider changes to the nation's constitution that would impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on federal officials and members of Congress. The measure passed with a vote of 94-51.The chamber also gave final approval to a companion bill that would create guidelines for selecting delegates to such a convention.   Continue reading...
