BMW Driver Arrested, Passenger Injured in Crash on DNT in Far North Dallas, Authorities Say

A suspected drunken driver was arrested after fleeing the scene of a crash on Dallas North Tollway that left one person injured in Far North Dallas overnight, authorities said. Highway patrol troopers were called to the toll road near the Fankford Road overpass about 2:30 a.m. Friday, Texas Department of Public Safety spokesman Lonny Haschel said. Preliminary information indicates that a black BMW was traveling north when it veered to the right, struck the concrete barrier, swerved back to the left and crashed into the left barrier, Haschel said. The driver and the passenger got out of the car and were standing in the roadway. A good Samaritan driving a Chrysler minivan stopped in front of the crash scene to assist. They were all outside of their vehicles when the driver of a Toyota Camry, who was traveling north and didn't see the crash, struck the BMW. The force pushed the BMW into the minivan, pinning the passenger of the BMW between the vehicles. Dallas Fire-Rescue responded and transported her to a hospital with serious injuries. There were no other reported injuries. The driver of the BMW fled the scene, but was found later and taken into custody for suspected driving while under the influence, Haschel said. The DNT reopened about 4 a.m. The investigation is ongoing.  Continue reading...
