As Sen. Cornyn Considers FBI Role, Some Lawmakers Caution Against Picking a Partisan

WASHINGTON -- The search for the next FBI director continues this week, with Texas Sen. John Cornyn still among several people President Donald Trump is said to be considering for the role.But as Democrats mull whether to hold up the confirmation process unless an independent prosecutor takes over the ongoing Russia probe, a few lawmakers -- including Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C. -- are cautioning against choosing a partisan to replace James Comey.On Sunday, Graham called Cornyn, with whom he serves on the Senate Judiciary Committee, a “wonderful man” who “under normal circumstances, would be a superb choice to be FBI director. But these are not normal circumstances.”Trump has a “duty and obligation to pick somebody beyond reproach outside the political lane,” he said during an appearance on “Meet the Press.”  Continue reading...
