Arlington Offered Nearly $1 Billion in Incentives for Amazon HQ2, Says It's No Longer in the Race

The city of Arlington revealed on Tuesday that it is out of the running for Amazon’s coveted second headquarters, after the city had offered the company tax breaks and grants worth close to a billion dollars if it had chosen to redevelop Globe Life Park after the Texas Rangers move into their taxpayer subsidized new stadium. “We were enthused that our vision for HQ2 caught the attention of Amazon,” City Manager Trey Yelverton said in a statement. “The company created a thoughtful selection process.”In September, Amazon issued an unprecedented call to metro areas around North America: Convince us that you’re the best place for us to build a $5 billion, 50,000-worker facility on par with its Seattle headquarters.  Continue reading...
