Abbott Signs Bill Renaming Part of North Central Expressway After Fallen Richardson Police Officer

Greg Abbott on Monday signed into law a bill that would name part of the North Central Expressway that runs through Richardson after officer David Sherrard, who last year became the police department's first casualty in the line of duty in its 64-year history. "Officer David Sherrard was a loving husband and father, and a dedicated public servant who ran towards danger to protect others," Abbott said in a news release. "Officer Sherrard died a hero, and while we can never fully repay him or his family, we can remember him for being the tremendous officer and the good and decent man that he was. I am honored to celebrate the memory of Officer Sherrard today, and we will ensure that we can celebrate his life and we can ensure that his name, his sacrifice, and his legacy will forever be remembered."Abbott signed the bill on the same day as the Texas Peace Officers' Memorial in Austin. Sherrard's parents, Margaret and Alvin Sherrard, and his nephew, Boston Sherrard, attended the governor's signing ceremony.   Continue reading...
