Tateyama “More Than Likely” To Begin Season On DL

RHP Yoshinori Tateyama is dealing with a nagging back issue

With final rosters due at the commissioner’s office later today, it appears a forgone conclusion that reliever Yoshinori Tateyama will begin the 2012 season on the disabled list with a back issue.

Tateyama himself said that this was the most likely case, and general manager Jon Daniels echoed the sentiment, saying, per the Dallas Morning News, that it’s “more than likely” that the right-hander will be on the DL when Texas opens up the 2012 regular season on Friday.

In his final two appearances this spring, Tateyama has surrendered six runs on eight hits in two innings of work. In 44 innings pitched in 2011, Tateyama posted a 4.50 ERA while striking out 43 and walking 11.
