Ryan Expects Rangers to be Very Competitive

Texas Rangers president Nolan Ryan expects the team to be very competitive even after the departures of Josh Hamilton, Michael Young and Mike Napoli following a season without a playoff victory.

The Hall of Fame pitcher, going into his sixth season as the Rangers president, says he feels like the team was emotionally and physically drained going down the stretch in 2012. They blew a five-game AL West lead over the final nine games and lost the first one-and-done AL wild-card game.

Five-time All-Star slugger Hamilton opted to sign a free-agent deal with the division rival Los Angeles Angels.

Ryan said Friday he believes the Rangers adjusted well and were able to do some things to strengthen the team.
