Joseph Gordon-Levitt & Scarlett Johansson Eying Zombie Romance

It would appear that there's a zombie zeitgeist overload brewing, the likes of which we haven't endured since the current vampire deluge we currently find ourselves in.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Scarlett Johansson are "loosely" attached to star in an adaptation of "Breathers: A Zombie's Lament," an undead romcom, according to Pajiba. The film would be produced by Diablo Cody and scripted by Geoff LaTulippe, whose "Gping the Distance" opens Friday.

Gordon-Levitt is considering the role of Andy, a 30-something man who died in a car accident and now must live in his parents' basement, while ScarJo would presumably play Rita, a sexy young woman who committed suicide. The pair come together at an Undead Anonymous meeting, a support group for zombies trying to readjust to life in a world where their kind have no rights.

    Here's Publishers Weekly's synopsis of S.G Browne's novel:

    [NATL] "Inception"
Leonardo DiCaprio stars in the latest from director Chris Nolan, a thriller from the near future where your mind can be the scene of the crime.
    (Published Tuesday, March 16, 2010)

Andy Warner reanimates after the car accident that kills his wife, but is too mangled from his injuries to talk. He lives in his parents' wine cellar, occasionally attending a zombie support group and struggling to rejoin a society that offers the undead no rights, bans them from working and doesn't even punish those who destroy them. When Andy and his fellow zombies—notably Rita, a sexy suicide victim with a lipstick fetish, and Jerry, a Playboy-obsessed stoner—learn why they're so driven to consume human flesh, the repercussions are both tragic and hilarious. Browne neatly mixes humor and extreme violence with a surprisingly tender love story, some witty social satire and an extremely strong narrative voice.

It's very early in the game for this project, so don't hold your breath.
