Trent Richardson Is “One of Emmitt's Biggest Fans”

The Browns' running back is hoping Emmitt Smith will be able to watch him play on Sunday at Cowboys Stadium

As it turns out, former Doak Walker Award winner and Browns’ running back Trent Richardson is a pretty huge fan of Pro Football Hall of Famer and Dallas Cowboys legend Emmitt Smith.

Richardson went to the same high school as Smith and reportedly keeps in contact with the NFL’s All-Time Leading Rusher. The University of Alabama product expressed some hope this week that Smith--who still resides here in North Texas--would be at Cowboys Stadium on Sunday to watch him play against his old team.

“I’m one of Emmitt’s biggest fans, so it would mean a lot to me if he’s at the game,” Richardson said on Wednesday, per the Chronicle-Telegram. “He’s someone who I’ve gotten to know pretty well and he’s a great man.

“We talk probably two or three times a month, and the thing I appreciate the most is he’ll be straight with you. He’ll tell me exactly how I’ve been doing and what I need to do to get better.”

Richardson is expected to be nearing full health on Sunday, following a bye week that allowed him some time to recover from a rib injury.
