NFC East Watch: Cruz Hoping Nicks Will Return

Hakeem Nicks will most likely depart the Giants in free agency this offseason

For the past four seasons, the New York Giants’ receiving duo of Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz have given opposing defenses fits--at least, when they’ve both been healthy--and the Dallas Cowboys are certainly no exception. So it’s good news for Dallas that, in all likelihood, the duo will be split up this offseason.

Coming off an injury plagued year, which allowed secondaries to key in on Cruz in the slot, Nicks is set to become a free agent. The Giants aren’t likely to be able to afford to re-sign him long-term, and franchising him would cost $10 million.

But that won’t stop Cruz, the man who benefitted more than anyone this side of Eli Manning from Hicks’ presence on the outside, from holding out hope that he could return.

"I have (asked him to stay)," Cruz said, per Conor Orr of the Newark Star-Ledger. "Selfishly, I would love for him to stay."

Certainly, no one can blame him.
