On this St. Patrick’s Day I could concoct a list of the greatest Irish in Cowboys’ history. But after you get past Tom Rafferty and Keith O’Neill and Scott Linehan and Jason Garrett's Leprechaun looks …
Or, let’s see if the Cowboys can get lucky in free agency. Particularly, restricted free agency.
According to ESPN.com, Dallas is showing an interest in upgrading its biggest hole, defensive end. To that end, they’re sniffing around Raiders’ lineman Benson Mayowa.
If you haven’t heard of him don’t be ashamed. Mayowa, who joined the NFL as an undrafted free agent out of Idaho with the Seahawks in ’13, has a whopping career sack total of two. But he was productive in Oakland last season, forcing a fumble and recording a safety for the Raiders.
We’ve detailed the Cowboys’ need to upgrade the defensive line, what with Randy Gregory missing next year’s first four games, DeMarcus Lawrence coming off back surgery and the potential departures of Greg Hardy, Jeremy Mincey and Jack Crawford.
And, for whatever reason, they didn’t make legit runs at Chris Long, Adrian Clayborn and Andre Branch in free agency.
A player with talent and upside like Mayowa won’t cure all that ills the Cowboys’ defensive line. But at this point it certainly can’t hurt.
Maybe if his name was O’Mayowa it’d be a no-brainer?
