Cowboys CB Brandon Carr Takes a Pay Cut

Brandon Carr has now gone two full seasons without an interception

After months of discussion about how Brandon Carr would likely have to take a pay cut or risk being cut by the Dallas Cowboys, Carr has taken a pay cut.

Carr will earn a base salary of around $6 million in 2016, the final year of that five-year, $50 million deal that brought him to Dallas from Kansas City in 2012. He was originally scheduled to earn a base salary of $9.1 million next season.

The move reduces Carr’s cap number in 2016 from $13.8 million to $10 million.

Carr has started all 16 games in each of the four seasons he’s been in Dallas, but his production dropped off hard in the last couple of years. In 2012 and 2013, Carr had six interceptions (two returned for touchdowns) and 23 passes broken up. In 2014 and 2015, he had no interceptions and 13 passes broken up.

2016 will be Carr’s ninth season in the league.
