Maya: Hidden Worlds Revealed

February 11 – September 4

NBC 5 and the Perot Museum of Nature and Science invite you to uncover a forgotten world at Maya: Hidden Worlds Revealed Saturday, February 11 through Monday, September 4, at the Perot Museum of Nature and Science.

Presented in English and Spanish, Maya is a multi-sensory experience for the whole family and the largest traveling Maya exhibition ever to tour the U.S. The expansive 10,000 square-foot display brings together more than 200 authentic artifacts and immersive environments to explore the astonishing accomplishments of one of the most powerful indigenous Mesoamerican civilizations, which still has millions of living descendants today.

Visitors will explore the fascinating social, natural, and spiritual realms of the Maya, from the past to the present. Known for their monumental architecture, distinctive art, and intricate knowledge of astronomy and time, observe the secrets that lay hidden for centuries as you journey through an underworld cave and excavate an ancient burial site. Encounter the richness of Maya culture through hands-on explorations such as building arches, deciphering hieroglyphs, translating the Maya calendar, and more.

The ancient Maya have captured imaginations since news of the discovery of ruined cities in the jungles of Central America was published in 1839. Extensive research has uncovered a culture with a sophisticated worldview that, during its Classic period (250-900 CE), rivaled any civilization in Europe. Come discover what archaeologists have uncovered about the once-hidden ancient Maya and explore the unresolved questions about why their cities declined so rapidly.
