Winter Weather Preparations Underway in North Texas

Fall begins Sept. 23, but some are already preparing for winter, including the North Texas Tollway Authority.

Drivers on the toll roads may have seen snowplows and sanding trucks Wednesday. They were out driving routes and testing equipment as part of a winter weather preparedness drill.

The NTTA wants to make sure its crews are ready for when a winter storms hit North Texas.

"This is a mock drill to get our crews re-familiarized with the routes on the roadway, wrestling with the equipment that we have to when we get a winter weather event," NTTA spokesperson Michael Rey said.

The NTTA decided to hold the drill because of the bad weather North Texas had the past two winters.

Rey said 17 pieces of broken equipment were identified and fixed.
