Semi Hauling Pumpkins Crashes in Ennis

No injuries

A semi hauling pumpkins to Houston crashed on the U.S. 287 bridge over Ennis Avenue Wednesday morning.

The rig crashed into a guardrail, then caught fire on the bridge around 6:45 a.m.

The truck split in half, spilling its load of pumpkins on the road and closing both north and southbound lanes of the highway.

The driver was not injured, fire crews said.

Police say they aren't sure why the driver hit the guardrail.

TxDOT crews are on site inspecting the bridge for damage.

The road will likely be closed through noon, firefighters said.
