Addison Ready To Kick Off Oktoberfest

Hey sauerkraut, dust off your lederhosen!

Short of jet setting to Munich, Addison Oktoberfest is the closest many North Texans can get to the real deal celebration of excess that happens in Germanyโ€™s third largest city every year.

Four days of folk dancing, schuhplattling, oompah and polka, music, games and of course -- German food and drink -- are offered.

A Bavarian folk band called The Munich Evergreens will travel from Germany to join dozens of authentic German entertainers at the festival.

Kids can enjoy contests such as dachshund races, bier barrel bowling, a German Idol yodeling contest and a German spelling bee.

Addison Mayor Joe Chow will officially start the party by tapping the ceremonial keg at 7 p.m. Friday.

What else โ€ฆ hmmm, seems we are forgetting somethingโ€ฆ Oh yeah -- beer! Bring a mug from past festivals to fill up or receive a liter-sized stein with the $45 VIP ticket.
