ROCK THIS TOWN: Join LaGrange, Deep Ellum, The Belmont Hotel, and NBC DFW starting tonight for the Rock This Town Music Festival, five days for the "Love, Hope, Strength Foundation." Performers include Fastball, Boys Named Sue, Le Cure, Back Porch Mary, Jokersdeck, Jackie Leigh, DJ Jen Miller and Paul Paredes. Aside from live music, the festival features a documentary screening of “Everest Rocks!,” Rok 'n Roll Raffle, the second annual "Music Mania" competition, pool party grand finale and much, much more. 100 percent of the ticket sales benefit the "Love, Hope, Strength Foundation" and Children’s Medical Center. The events take place at LaGrange in Deep Ellum and the Belmont Hotel in Oak Cliff.

PLAYING WITH SERIOUS BUSINESS: The Dallas Morning News calls Zayd Dohrn "a playwright with a big future", and when you look at his resume it's pretty clear they're right. Playwright of "Long Way Go Down," now playing at the Kitchen Dog Theater, Zayd Dohrn received his MFA from NYU and is currently a Lila Acheson Wallace Fellow at Juilliard. His plays have been produced and developed at The Public Theater, Woolly Mammoth, Marin Theatre Company, South Coast Repertory, The Alliance, Kitchen Dog Theater, Magic Theatre, Berkshire Theatre Festival, American Theater Company, Southern Rep, Boston Playwrights' Theatre, and New Jersey Rep. "Long Way Go Down" is the story of a young Mexican couple who is trapped at a way station when they can't pay off their debts to the American coyotes who smuggled them across the border.

THIS WAS YOUR GREAT-GRANDFATHER'S TEXAS: If you've been growing a few tomato plants in the backyard and are ready to take it to the next level of self-sufficiency, then we've found just the thing for everyone that wants to be a 19th century Texan for a day! Wagons West is a program of hands-on activities recreating elements of a typical school-age child's day. The children wash clothes using a washboard and lye soap, card wool, grind corn by hand and weave on a child's scale loom. This popular group program is open for individuals on these three days only! Includes materials and a snack. Reservations required one week prior. Please call 817-392-6769 or e-mail educator@logcabinvillage.org for a registration form. Program is for K-6th grade.
