Andy Warhol Superstar Holly Woodlawn and Sham pose at the "Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios. Celebrate Andy Warhol tonight at Modern 'til Midnight.
POST-MOD CUBED: If you've still been meaning to check out Andy Warhol: The Last Decade at the Modern, show up at 6PM Saturday and get your pop art fix using multiple senses. Modern 'til Midnight features the keytar-toting Monastery, The Orbans, and Seryn, who'll warm the stage for psychadelic shoegaze-pop outfit Warpaint from Los Angeles, and artist Ben Jones presents his multi-media performance work "Dr. Doo"; I Shot Andy Warhol screens at 8PM. Be sure to scour the full schedule for more (there's an '80s costume contest for the glam inclined.) Free for Modern members, $15 for the general public. KXT 91.7 chips in to provide a $5 discount for their members.
SWAK: The MusInk Tattoo Convention and Music Festival at Fair Park's Centennial Building packs a pretty solid Saturday lineup of dusty country-rock. If you're prone to wandering the needle stations, make sure you stop for Lucero at 8:30PM. The Memphis band knows how to both throw a party and harness tragic romance so listeners leave wanting more of guitarist/vocalist Ben Nichols' pain. Read the slate of set times here. One-day passes are $25, or get $5 with a three-day pass if you plan to come on Sunday when The Used headlines. Programming starts at noon both days.
BLOODTHIRST: So Contra might be a little Nick and Norah for some, but we have to admit we've come around to Vampire Weekend. Those tribal-turned-candy beats in "Giving Up the Gun" just hit so hard, and a sunglasses-in-the-car anthem never hurt anyone. Go to House of Blues, kids, and have fun. Sunday, 9PM. Find tickets here.
