Texas high school football has a new No. 2 all-time rusher, but the 56-year-old record for career yards appears safe.

Cayuga running back Traylon Shead moved past Corpus Christi Calallen's Wes Danaher last week for the runner-up spot behind Kenneth Hall of Sugar Land.

With 269 yards Friday night against Cushing, Shead stands at 8,885 for his career, 30 more than Danaher's total from 1992 to 1995.

Hall set the seemingly unbeatable mark of 11,232 from 1950 to 1953.

Shead would have to average 293 yards per game if Cayuga played eight games and reached the Class 1A championship round.
