Stars Give Goligoski 4-Year Extension

Extension worth nearly $20 million

The Dallas Stars have reached a four-year, $18.4 million contract extension with defenseman Alex Goligoski.

The agreement was announced Monday. Goligoski's current deal expires this summer.

โ€œWeโ€™re very pleased that we were able to sign Alex to this extension,โ€ said Stars owner Tom Gaglardi. โ€œWe are committed to building a winner here in Dallas and that starts with re-signing your key players and maintaining a solid foundation for your roster.โ€

Added Stars General Manager Joe Nieuwendyk, โ€œAlex Goligoski is one of our core players and we are very pleased to get him under contract during the prime of his career. Alex is a character person and one of the anchors of our blue-line. Heโ€™s a big part of our hockey club.โ€

The 26-year-old Goligoski is in his fourth NHL season and his second with the Stars.

Goligoski in November broke his thumb in a 3-1 loss at Pittsburgh, his former team.
