Stars GM Jim Nill on NHL's 3-On-3

I really like the NHL’s new three-on-three overtime idea, mostly because it should make shootouts a rarity.

Earlier this week I brought this up with Dallas Stars general manager Jim Nill, who is also a supporter of the concept.

“The three-on-three is going to be great,” Nill said. “It’s exciting. It’s amazing. If you break a stick, you don’t have time to get back to the bench. It’s now three-on-two and the poor guy without a stick is in no man’s land. It’s going to be exciting, the fans are going to love it. It’s going to end a lot of games early which is good for everybody, so it’s very exciting.”

I followed up with a comment about how having Tyler Seguin, Jamie Benn, Jason Spezza and John Klingberg on his roster could put the Stars in a really good place in the OT sessions.

“I was talking to the coaches the other day about our different options,” Nill said. “Do you go with three forwards?  Do you go with two forwards and a defenseman like John Klingberg? We’re going to be an exciting team when we get to that situation and it’s going to be great for fans to watch.”
