Ready For the Fireworks?

Denison, McKinney could repeat last year's offensive classic

Remember that McKinney-Denton Ryan game a few weeks ago? In case you forgot -- Ryan QB Scotty Young, a Texas Tech commit, outdueled McKinney QB Zach Lee, an LSU commit, as he tossed a record-tying eight touchdown passes as Ryan held off McKinney for a 70-63 win in a game that ended shortly before midnight.

Ready for Round 2?

Tonight at 7:30 p.m. in the hostile confines of Denison's Munson Stadium, McKinney and Denison will renew a budding rivalry that produced one of the more eye-popping games of all of last season.

Zach Lee threw for 420 yards and six touchdowns a year ago. Good enough for a win, right? Nope, not when you have a defense like McKinney. Denison running back D.J. Jones, one of the top RB recruits in the state, rushed for 434 yards on 30 carries and scored eight touchdowns as Denison won, 65-64, after converting for two points instead of an extra point after Jones' final touchdown of the night.

Now, they meet again.

Denison is 3-1 and started the season ranked in the Top 5 in the Class 4A Associated Press state poll. But the Yellow Jackets fell out after losing to Big Spring. McKinney is 0-4 and aside from its 70-63 loss to Ryan, they also lost to crosstown foe McKinney Boyd, 78-51, a couple of weeks ago.

This game has the words "offensive fireworks" written all over it. Look closely and you'll see.
