Protesters Spell Out ‘2018' in Sand on Coronado

Nearby, Republicans from across the country gathered for the Republican National Committee Spring Meeting

Hundreds of protesters gathered on the beach near San Diego's Hotel Del Coronado Thursday afternoon, standing in formation to spell out "2018" on the sand outside the Republican National Committee's Spring Meeting.

Organizers said they wanted to encourage others to help vote out the GOP majority in the U.S. House of Representatives in 2018.

The protest, organized by San Diego Indivisible, was a response to a series of events, organizers said, including recent developments in GOP lawmakers' attempts to repeal the Affordable Care Act, to defund Planned Parenthood and to delegitimize climate change science.

"The only way San Diego Indivisible believes those issues will be appropriately tackled is if we Flip Congress by voting out the GOP majority in 2018," event organizers said in a statement.
