Woman to Plead in $2M Door-to-Door Magazine Scheme

A Pittsburgh woman has been scheduled to change her not guilty plea in what federal prosecutors say was a $2 million scheme to sell phony magazine subscriptions door-to-door.

Prosecutors say 32-year-old Larhon Buchanan worked with a Pittsburgh man to set up companies that operated in western Pennsylvania, Seattle and Dallas from February 2007 until 2011.

Authorities say more than 21,000 people were victimized in the scheme by sellers who were falsely instructed to pose as single mothers or convicted criminals who were selling the magazines to get back on their feet financially.

Buchanan's attorney didn't immediately return a call on her change of plea hearing scheduled later Tuesday.

Online court records show her co-defendant, 44-year-old Samuel Cole, is continuing to contest the charges.
