Woman, 43, Crashes into Fort Worth Home During Police Chase

Police said they arrested a 43-year-old woman after she crashed into a Fort Worth home following a brief chase early Wednesday morning.

Officers tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver, identified by police as Nolberta Vargas, ran a red light at West Lancaster Avenue and then turned onto eastbound Interstate 30, police said. Officers believed she was impaired and continued pursuit as she headed south on U.S. 287, failing to yield and increasing speed.

Police said Vargas exited the freeway, lost control and headed into the yard of a home in the 4100 block of Wilbarger Street. The Toyota became partially airborne, struck vehicles in the driveway and landed on the top of one of the vehicles after damaging part of the home.

Vargas had to be extracted by Fort Worth firefighters, police said. She was then arrested for evading in a vehicle and transported to John Peter Smith Hospital with injuries that were not life threatening.

"She was still fighting with the cops when they got here," Gerardo Esqivel said. "She was fighting with them trying to run away or something."

Esqivel's parents and three siblings were in the house at the time of the crash. None were injured.
