Texas Assault Rifle Trial Draws Attention From Gun Activists

A closely watched trial in Central Texas involving a soldier carrying an assault rifle is expected to wrap up this week.

Closing arguments in the Belton trial of Army Master Sgt. Christopher Grisham could happen as early as Thursday.

Gun-rights advocates have argued Grisham's case as he was charged with a misdemeanor count of interfering with the duties of an officer.

Grisham was arrested in March while hiking with his 15-year-old son, who was working on the requirements for a Boy Scout badge.

A Temple officer was responding to a call that the Fort Hood soldier was carrying an assault rifle. The officer has testified he was worried about Grisham's reaction after approaching him.

A video of their confrontation being arrested by a police officer was posted online.
