Teen Turns Himself In After Deadly Shooting in Denton

Police say a 16-year-old boy is in custody following a deadly shooting in Denton.

Officers were called to a house in the 1200 block of Paco Trail just before 8 p.m. Monday.

Denton police confirmed to NBC 5 that a 21-year-old man, later identified as Jimmy Castro-Almazan, was found lying on the ground, with a single gunshot wound.

Castro-Almazan was transported to Denton Regional Medical Center, where he died a short time later.

Officers said the teenage suspect surrendered to the Denton police Monday night. He has been charged with murder and is in the Denton County Juvenile Detention Center.

Investigators said the suspect and the victim both lived on Paco Trail. The pair had a confrontation near the street Monday night.

During the confrontation, officers said the suspect obtained a gun and fired multiple shots at the victim, striking him one time.

The circumstances surrounding the confrontation is still under investigation.
